Strengthening European Cultural Exchange: Alliance Française and Goethe-Institut Expand Joint Presence in Karachi
On Thursday, July 30, 2026, Alliance Française de Karachi marked a transformative chapter in international cultural diplomacy with the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) alongside Goethe-Institut Karachi.
The agreement was formally signed by the Director of Alliance Française Karachi, Mr. Emmanuel Beurec, and the Director of Goethe-Institut Karachi, Mr. Andreas Schiekofer, in the distinguished presence of the Consul General of France and the Consul General of Germany.
A Legacy Rooted in the Élysée Treaty
This initiative represents more than just a shared organizational partnership; it stands as a living expression of the Élysée Treaty of 1963. Fulfilling the spirit of this historical accord, which cemented modern Franco-German reconciliation, both institutes are uniting their efforts to nurture cross-cultural dialogue right here in Pakistan.
The signing ceremony brought together key dignitaries, including both Consuls General, institute directors, the lead Pakistani architect, and leadership from Alliance Française Karachi.
Building a Sustainable Cultural Hub
Crucially, this expanded partnership will be realized through the construction of a dedicated new extension directly on the grounds of Alliance Française de Karachi. Following two years of diligent planning, construction of this sustainable, user-friendly German facility inside our compound is officially underway.
Once completed, this modern extension will serve as an integrated hub for language courses, artistic exhibitions, educational exchanges, and community activities.
In a joint statement, Mr. Emmanuel Beurec and Mr. Andreas Schiekofer shared their vision for the future:
