support our nonprofit work
Dear Members, Students, and Friends of AFK,
As I write this letter at the end of July, the beautiful Karachi monsoon rain is pouring down on the city. Earlier this month, the French Consulate celebrated the French National Day, 14 juillet, or “quatorze juillet” in AFK’s lush gardens, with the city’s diplomats, businesspeople, and members of the international community. The previous night, AFK held a celebration of French music and food for students and AFK members. And the Avari Hotel kicked off a weeklong French Food Festival to bring gastronomic delight to Karachi.
All of this reminds me of the importance of building cultural bridges between France and Pakistan, and the centrality of AFK’s role in this educational, cultural, and diplomatic mission. 14 juillet is also a good time to remember the place of AFK in the Karachi community as a beloved French language and learning center, and to ask for your assistance in continuing this mission into the future.
The Alliance Française de Karachi opened its doors in 1954 to students and community members with a love for French language and culture. We have taught thousands of students at all levels, conferred hundreds of DELF and DALF degrees, and held cultural activities, lectures, festivals, concerts, workshops and other activities that are far too many to count.
Going forward, we seek to expand our programs and activities, improve the condition of our premises, including a full-scale renovation of our Cafeteria and Library, and continue to offer space and support to other organizations that serve underprivileged communities in Karachi. In the last several years we have collaborated with charitable organizations like the Al-Umeed Rehabiliation Association for children with cerebral palsy and street children, the Deaf Reach School, and the Lyari Girls Boxing Club.
Today we are proud to say that we are the most vibrant organization in Karachi dedicated to enriching the cultural landscape of Karachi and lives of our students and members. To help us achieve our goals, please consider making a donation to the Alliance Française de Karachi in the name of cross-cultural cooperation and cultural education, not just for the privileged, but for all the citizens of Karachi for whom the Alliance Française stands for dialogue, for friendship, and for peace in the city.
You can make your donation to the AFK general fund, or specify a project to which you want to contribute. Cheques can be made out to Alliance Française de Karachi and dropped off or mailed to our office, or you can deposit directly into our bank account. Here are the details:
