With a short presentation of Jean Valjean, by Eric Touzé
Following the death of Count de Villeneuve, Henri Fortin (Jean-Paul Belmondo), his employee, is falsely accused of murder. Sent to prison, he dies during a failed escape, leaving behind his wife and his son Henry. A few years later, he has become a great boxing champion. Inspired by the courage of his father, he decides to help a Jewish family persecuted during the Second World War…
Set in France during the first half of the 20th century, the movie is a variation on Victor Hugo’s classic novel by means of the story of a man whose life is affected by and somewhat duplicated by the Hugo story of the beleaguered Jean Valjean.
